Pennsylvania Tobacco Farms Feel Cigarettes Tax Pressure
Pennsylvania, a state located in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States has a rich agricultural history. So, as it is known in Lancaster County and in many other parts of Pennsylvania, tobacco farming is a way of life for many of inhabitants.
They declared that they are very pleased of their farming inheritance and are working very much and hard for only to stay in business in this activity that was hit especially in recent years when were enforced a lot of anti-smoking legislations.
Like many other household, farmer and employer in Pennsylvania, tobacco farmers wish to find new ways for to increase their income. They want to inform the state government about their main problem.
Agriculture, especially tobacco farmers, will feel the influence of the new legislation to increase the cigarettes prices. Only the state administration asked for a hike in the tobacco tax for to fix the state’s budget. Instead of cutting spending, Gov. Ed Rendell and House Democratic leaders wish to pass the tax on to diligent taxpayers, retail stores and especially farmers.
This proposed hike in tobacco taxes will have a bad effect on the approximately 1,500 tobacco farmers in Pennsylvania. So, higher taxes will only hurt locally tobacco grown, which remains an important farming crop in the state that many farmers’ family depend on to stay in business.
In general tobacco helps them to pay the bills on their farms and works good with Tobacco Companies and produce more production. Scientists declared that Pennsylvania is the only state in the country where the tobacco-growing industry is increasing yet. Statistics show also that Lancaster County alone brings in $22 million from tobacco farmers.
Tobacco farmers from Pennsylvania opposed the new proposal to increase the tobacco taxes. They declared that they plan to tell Rendell and House Democratic leaders that tobacco taxes should be cut but not raised if they want to balance the state’s budget. Researchers concluded that the increase tobacco taxes in Pennsylvania will stop or even will cut the tobacco farmers business.
